Book Fair

library

Book Fairs are held twice each year in our library.  The first one is in the fall, near Parent Teacher Conference Week and the second one is in the spring, near Open House.  Students are able to purchase books, posters, book sets, and small items during their designated shopping time; at lunch recess and after school while escorted by a parent.  Items sold are full price and are also charged the applicable sales tax.

Accelerated Reader

Ranch View uses the Renaissance program Accelerated Reader (AR) school wide.  Books that are AR are marked with green stickers.  The book's reading level is on top and the point value is on the bottom.  Students take online comprehension tests after reading AR books.  Points are accumulated throughout each trimester. Below is an example of a library book with an Accelerated Reader sticker.

Library Skills

Each year, students in grades 2-5 learn about research skills.  They learn how to use many resources, including a table of contents, index, atlas, thesaurus, dictionary, and encyclopedia.  Here are a few recommended titles to add to your home library.
